False prophets and pre-pubescent girls

Aisha was just a little six-year-old girl when Muhammad married her, and she was only nine when the bonking started. Muslims will say she acquiesced, but when it comes to making serious decisions about matrimony, six-year-old girls are just not mature enough: at that very early age they’re too young to even understand the concept of marriage. And as far as penetrative sex is concerned, can a nine-year-old virgin really give informed consent?

Yeah, but back then everyone did it… marrying young girls was morally acceptable then because it was the prevailing practice. Indeed it was, but does that make it right? I don’t think so: something isn’t right just because it’s widely practiced. Besides, it’s fair to assume that god wants us to follow a higher ethical code. Isn’t that what being a cutting edge prophet is all about? Aren’t they supposed to open our eyes? Let’s face it, readily following customs, especially customs that are wicked and contemptible, isn’t very impressive.
