Muslims behaving badly in Bologna

The Basilica of San Petronio is the main church of Bologna. It’s actually the fifth largest church in the world. Tourists and art lovers flock to view its many magnificent features, including the famous fifteenth century frescoes that adorn its walls. Some of these frescoes depict scenes from Dante’s Inferno, and one in particular shows the prophet Muhammad being thrown to demons and devoured.

But guess what? That’s right… Muslims are offended! In fact, so-called Islamic leaders have written to the Pope demanding that the fresco in question be destroyed. Now you might think that destroying a priceless fresco is a bit drastic; but try telling that to Al-Qaeda, because Bin Laden’s raggedy bearded boys are so offended they’ve twice tried to blow up the whole Basilica!

Ah well, at least the Pope ignores all calls for the fresco’s destruction, and thankfully the Italian police have so far successfully thwarted Al-Qaeda’s attempts at blowing up the Basilica. But does anyone really believe its frescoes will remain in place for another four or five hundred? I don’t think so.
