McEwan slams Islam

Another highly acclaimed British novelist has denounced Islam. Speaking to an Italian newspaper, Ian McEwan attacked pro-muslim political correctness, adding that he despised Islamism, because “it wants to create a society that I detest.” To be fair, McEwan was specifically talking about Islamism, and not Islam in general, but as many see it there’s not much of a distinction to be made. For example, every school of Islamic jurisprudence upholds sharia law and jihad. Anyway, whether it’s radical Islam or just Islam, McEwan’s remarks are very welcome, and when added to what’s already been said by others, such as Martin Amis and Salmon Rushdie, one can’t help thinking that the penny has finally dropped. I mean, McEwan, Amis and Rushdie are hardly reactionary right-wingers.
